The College of Informatics (http://informatics.nku.edu) at Northern Kentucky University invites applications for ! a tenure-track, full-time position in health informatics to begin in August, 2014. Started in 2005, the College of Informatics embraces the concept of information in all its aspects: information management, business informatics, media informatics, and information infrastructure, processing, presentation, dissemination, design and analysis. The college unites the Departments of Business Informatics (BIS), Computer Science and Communication.
The Health Informatics Graduate Program (MHI) resides in the Department of Business Informatics (mhi.nku.edu). The scope of the program is based on a broad perspective of health informatics: the application of information systems technology in the health care industry. The college awards a Master of Science in Health Informatics (MHI) and a postgraduate certificate in Health Informatics.
While the specific area of research and teaching is flexible, preference will be given to applicants with backgrounds integrating infor! mation technology, health care performance data, and consumer ! health. In addition to the teaching and research responsibilities for the MHI program, the successful applicant will participate in and help guide the programÂ's future development and potential accreditation.
The MHI program works closely with the Department of Advanced Nursing Studies in the College of Health Professions on the MSN-Nursing Informatics degree program. The applicant will also be expected to work closely with individuals in the local healthcare industry in order to make the health informatics program responsive to regional and national needs. A high level of teaching and research is a requirement for this position. Minimum qualifications include one of the following; Ph.D. in Information Systems or Health Informatics, M.D, or Pharm D. Strong candidates without a doctorate but with a masterÂ's degree and extensive HIT and clinical experience may be eligible for a full-time, non-tenure track position at a highly competitive salary.
