This job reports to the
Team Leader Nurse Specialist .

Relocation is not provided and travel is required occasionally.

This is a
Full-Time

Overview

37.5 hours per week for 43 weeks per year

The Nurse Specialist provides nursing services focusing on the prevention of illness, injury or disability, the promotion of health, and maintenance of the health of individuals and populations. The incumbent works independently within agency guidelines in a variety of settings, including schools, to provide services.

Job Skills/Requirements

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Provides mandated public health services for the public school system.

Provides school health services as follows:
o Limited case management a! nd provision of services for students who require care for chr! onic illnesses.
o Treatment Coverage Diabetics, etc.
o KDE mandated vision screenings for K, 1, 3, & 5
o Immunization Consultation
o Training of core school staff for conditions/care for students with chro ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Provides mandated public health services for the public school system.

Provides school health services as follows:
o Limited case management and provision of services for students who require care for chronic illnesses.
o Treatment Coverage Diabetics, etc.
o KDE mandated vision screenings for K, 1, 3, & 5
o Immunization Consultation
o Training of core school staff for conditions/care for students with chronic illnesses
o Training of core staff in each school for daily medication administration and emergency medications
o Medication log review and follow-up
o Infinite Campus condition flags placed and updated for students with health conditions
o Case manageme! nt of students with chronic healthcare needs
o Vision screenings for IEP/ARCs, as time permits
o ARC, 504 attendance, as time permits
o Communicable Disease Surveillance
o Health Fairs/ rallies
o Health Classes
o Immunization data entry
Delegates to trained school personnel medication administration.
Delegates and is available for consultation for insulin administration by LPN.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Registered Nurse and : Nursing Diploma plus 5 years experience; Associates degree in Nursing (ADN) plus 3 years experience; Bachelors degree in Nursing (BSN), or Bachelors degree in a related field, plus 2 years nursing experience; or a Masters degree in Nursing (MSN), or Masters degree in a related field, plus 1 year nursing experience.

Education Requirements

  • Associates, Bachelors or Masters in Nursing plus related nursing experience.
Certification Requirements

    Valid Registered Nursing License
