This job is responsible for performing ultrasound examinations at a technical level in accordan! ce with department protocols and applicable regulatory requirements. Work is performed with respect to various specialty/sub-specialty areas (i.e. cardiac, general and sub-specialties) in a variety of healthcare settings. Employees may work exclusively in one specialty (i.e. cardiac) or in multiple areas. An incumbent assumes responsibility for the safe, efficient and proper operation of ultrasound equipment.

Essential Duties:
Executes all varieties of diagnostic ultrasound exams presently offered by the department; performs all examinations in accordance with American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM) standards and department protocols; determines correct techniques to obtain images of the highest quality and resolution; determines suitable areas for needle aspirations and/or tissue biopsies for pathologic diagnosis; performs intra-operative determines provisional diagnoses and participates (along with supervising Radiologist) in the final exam! diagnosis.

Serves as a liaison between patients, int! erpreting physicians (Radiologists) and referring physicians; explains testing procedures to patient; ensures that emergent exam results are relayed promptly to the appropriate physician or medical floor.

Utilizes appropriate educational resources to maintain currency in diagnostic sonography, and assists in various educational services relating to both staff and patients; attends local and national professional meetings to stay abreast of new procedures, equipment or information; participates in the formal training of ultrasound interns; evaluates new ultrasound products and equipment.

Performs incidental office duties as necessary to maintain the completeness of the patient record; ensures that patient data is entered correctly and that patients are billed appropriately.

Assists with Quality Assurance/Improvements audits and activities as required.

Qualifications

Requirements:
Graduate of an accredited program in rad! iologic technology or ultrasound.

Must be registered in good standing with the ARDMS

(American Registry of diagnostic Medical Sonographers)

or

be ARDMS Registry Eligible.

Must have RVT Certification or complete the registry within one year from date of hire.

Must be registered in good standing with the ARRT

(American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.)

Previous clinical experience preferred.
