Nursing Care Technician/UKHC

The unit assists with decompressing overcrowded areas within the Emergency Department, Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) and diagnostic/interventional radiology as well as evaluating patients! from outside facilities for appropriate level of care placement and direct admits from clinic, office, or home.
This position works with a team of NCT's and provides direct patient care and works one on one with Registered Nurse (RN) to complete delegated tasks such as: obtain vital signs, phlebotomy, documentation, assist with ADL's (activities of daily living), respond to patient call lights, unit orientation, and patient admission, transfer and discharge.
The primary responsibilities for this position consist of providing total, continuous, and patient centered care in a collaborative work environment. The environment supports collaborative efforts among the nursing staff and the team of physicians to increase communication and enhance expected patient outcomes. This includes utilization of the nursing process in conjunction with a comprehensive patient-centered plan of care, ensuring patient satisfaction, delegating duties to unlicensed personnel, and! adhering to University policies and procedures as well as fed! eral, state and local regulations.

In addition, the essential functions for this position include the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull 50-100 pounds on a daily basis; as well as stand, walk and sit for long periods of time. The conditions of work may involve exposure to communicable diseases and injury from intractable patients or sharp instruments.
Skills / Knowledge / Abilities
The ideal candidate will be compassionate, honest, trustworthy and have a strong work ethic. Must also be able to take direction and communicate effect! ively with staff, patients and their family members. In addition, must also be confident and enjoy working in a fast paced environment. Knowledge of CPR and basic concept of abnormal vital sign parameters is a must. Candidate will also need strong organizational, prioritization, and critical thinking skills along with basic computer navigation skills and working knowledge of the internet.
Preferred Education / Experience
Previous hospital experience in a telemetry unit is preferred and American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support certification for the Healthcare Provider valid for at least six months after employment date is highly encouraged.
