Registered Nurses in the Progressive Care Unit on 8 South at UK Chandler Hospital provide patient care primarily for adult patients. This unit cares for reasonably stable patients with multiple complexities to unstable patients that require an increased intensity of care. Patient conditions and treatments include: stroke or trauma recovery; complex wounds with fistulas, drains and vacuum-assisted closure devices; bariatric patients with multiple system conditions; cardiac monitoring; basic dysrhythmia interpretation; standardized monitoring procedures for pre, intra and post proc! edures; and non-invasive hemodynamic pressure monitoring.

The Trauma Progressive Care Unit (8 South) cares primarily for patients who have received trauma, orthopedic, vascular, burn and plastic surgical procedures. Nurses are cross-trained to provide care and rotate between the Trauma l Progressive Care Unit (8 South) and the Surgical Acute Care Unit (8 West).

As part of the Trauma & Surgical Service Line, staff receives basic orientation and training to work in this area. Further in depth training is provided for those specialty areas. All units utilize self-scheduling to accommodate staff requests and improve staff satisfaction.

The primary responsibilities for this position consist of providing total, continuous, and patient centered care in a collaborative work environment. The environment supports collaborative efforts among the nursing staff and the team of physicians to increase communication and enhance expected patient outcomes. This includes utilization of the nursing process in conjunction with a! comprehensive patient-centered plan of care, ensuring patient satisfaction, delegating duties to unlicensed personnel, and adhering to University policies and procedures as well as federal, state and local regulations.

Skills / Knowledge / Abilities

The ideal cand! idate will enjoy working in a dedicated, interactive team that encourages and supports their fellow co-workers. Must be engaged, take initiative and have a desire to learn in a challenging environment. Knowledge of Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs and Gordon's Functional Patterns, along with Roy's Adaptation model is a must in clinical practice at UK Healthcare. Candidate will also need strong problem solving, leadership, organizational, prioritization, and critical thinking skills along with basic computer navigation skills and working knowledge of the internet.

Preferred Education / Experience

Prefer a Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN).
